All courses and workshops are held at the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre
Beginners course – 2021
This theoretical course is meant primarily for people starting in the art of bonsai. It will be offered online using ZOOM and will consist of 3 sessions of about one hour each.
The dates and the topics to be covered are:
- Monday, November 29 at 7:00 p.m. on the artistic aspects of bonsai;
- Thursday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m. on the horticultural aspects of bonsai;
- Monday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. on how to transform a nursery plant into an incipient bonsai
These sessions will be interactive in the sense that pauses will be taken during the presentations to allow for the instructor to answer questions from participants. The sessions will be in English but francophone participants will have the opportunity of asking questions in French.
All participants who register for the course will receive the links to the three ZOOM sessions upon payment by e-transfer (Interac) of $20.

Open workshop on May 9th 2022
Those bilingual workshops are held at the Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre. Members bring their own tree or trees to work on with the help of an experienced member. Participants can get help in performing repot, wiring or styling, or simply receive advice. There is no need to register in advance to participate in those workshops and there is no cost for members.
Bonsai development workshop on May 2nd 2022
During the workshop, participants will receive assistance from experienced OBS members to begin developing their own bonsai using a pre-bonsai plant. The plant material, a suitable pot, the tools and the necessary supplies will be provided.
The cost is $125.
